A fortified Farmhouse set in the border lands of Northumbria. Built around the 16th century to protect farmers and livestock from Reivers raiders, wars with Scotland. Farmers lived on first floor with distinctive doors and windows. History of Reivers at Bellingham Heritage Centre & Hexham Old Gaul.

Stunning desolate location, easy access from small carpark close by. Well worth a visit.

Our family love getting out and about to see historic sites, we recently joined national heritage and we have been to see some beautiful places. However we were a little disappointed with this site, the site itself is unmanned with a few basic information boards dotted around, there are sheep and rams that roam freely around the ruin so if you are nervous of sheep or rams then this isnt for you. I would say if your passing by you might as well have a look but I wouldnt go out of my way just to see this site.

Great little find in Northumberland. The drive to it is interesting, with stunning views.. This one is 'off the beaten track' ..

A fine example of a 16th century fortified farmhouse, worth seeking out for a visit, albeit quite remote.

I went out looking for this a week or so ago. We left the car at Bellingham and set off for the house. Pleasant walk there, really beautifil surroundings and the bastle house itself is very impressive, especially once put into context with the history of the area.
Really worth a visit.

Ouch! I hit my head on the doorframe quite badly. English Heritage need to put warning signs on the steps.
Would have been a good start to a heritage walk had I not been mortally wounded. I am now a full inch shorter.
